13. The Daily News

Description:

I know many classrooms write the daily news each day. I have incorporated the computer into this task.

Materials:

Macintosh Computer,LTV Pro-TV, ClarisWorks/AppleWorks

Procedures:

The children gather in front of the television screen.

We talk about what has happened or might happen that day.

The children dictate their ideas to me in complete sentences.

As I type their sentences using ClarisWorks/AppleWorks, they follow along on the screen. As the year progresses, you could invite the children to come up and type their own sentences for the class.

We read together what we have written as we go along.

Two copies are printed that are kept in two three-ring spiral notebooks.

We can refer to what happened any day each week throughout the year.

Children can select to read this as part of their "reading workshop" time.

You have a very accurate account of what happens each day in class.

If you forget or time runs out one day, just do two days on the following day.
