Another program that I have found very exciting for the children is Kids Pix Studio. The children design an ABC slide show. I usually use this towards the end of the year. I think of this as a stepping stone to Hyper Studio.

Procedures:

The children design a card for a letter of the alphabet on paper. The child then adds the animation and graphics to show this letter. Each card has animation, graphics and sounds on the computer screen. For example, "A is for Apple" would be written on the card. All the graphics and animations are selected from a menu. The last step is where the child adds their own voice to read the card. Once everyone in the class has created their card, we put them together into a movie. This slide show can be copied on to a videotape for presentation.
