Introduction:

As we get ready to enter the twenty-first century, the use of computers in our elementary classrooms is essential in the education of our children. Computers need to be integrated into our curriculum. They shouldn't be a separate entity.

I have included a plan that I use in my first grade classroom for getting the children started in working independently on the computer.

You will also see ways I have integrated technology into the lessons that I teach throughout the year, especially in the area of language arts.

I use computer technology a great deal to enhance my teaching. You won't find large white tablets in my classroom. Any time a chart type activity needs to be completed, I use the computer. With the wonderful programs out there it makes the job much easier.

Language Experience Stories are a key factor to a successful whole language reading program. Children learn from their experiences as well as from their peers. They stimulate one another with their ideas. I use the language experience technique for a variety of activities throughout the year. In this packet you will see how I use these techniques in my classroom.

I've included some teacher shortcuts when using a database, too.

I hope after reading these ideas you will feel that you, too, can have success with technology in your own classroom.
